SaaS landing page rescue: 22 quick fixes for higher conversion rates

Saas Copywriter

Your landing page is part of a much larger marketing ecosystem and story. Breakdowns in conversions can happen anywhere — from mismatched ad messaging, to unclear expectations, to friction in the next step after the landing page.

To help you uncover what might be holding your landing page back, I’ve put together 22 of my best tips to help you turn more paid ad clicks into customers.

Whether you’re troubleshooting a high bounce rate or aiming to send more qualified leads through to your sales team, this quick guide will walk you through practical steps to diagnose and fix the most common landing page challenges I see when I’m working with SaaS companies.

Targeting and traffic quality

  1. Are you targeting the right audience?

    • Does the ad reach users who are most likely to need your product or service?

    • Is your audience segmentation specific and relevant?

  2. Is your ad traffic coming from high-quality sources?

    • Are you targeting platforms that align with your audience's behavior and preferences?

    • Are you focusing on high-intent users from relevant locations, devices, or demographics?

  3. Are you matching keywords or targeting criteria to user intent?

    • Are your keywords closely tied to the pain points and needs of your target audience?

    • Do your targeting parameters filter out irrelevant traffic effectively?

  4. Is your traffic aligned with the stage of the buyer's journey?
    • Are you meeting users at the awareness, consideration, or decision-making stage?

    • Is your offer appropriate for where users are in the funnel?

Messaging and offer

  1. Does your landing page headline immediately click with your ideal customer?

    • Is it clear, benefit-focused, and relevant to their needs?

    • Does it create a strong emotional or logical connection?

  2. Is your value proposition compelling and unique?

    • Why should visitors choose you over competitors?

    • Is your value proposition clearly communicated within the first few seconds?

  3. Does your page deliver on the promise of the ad?

    • Is there consistency in tone, offer, and visuals between the ad and the landing page?

    • Every landing page should be relevant to the search query and ad copy. Do visitors feel like they're in the right place after clicking your ad?

  4. Is your offer irresistible?

    • Does it address a specific, real pain point or desire?

    • Is it time-sensitive or exclusive to create a sense of urgency?

  5. Are you falling into the generic homepage trap?

    • Many SaaS companies waste their ad spend on great ad creative that targets the right people, but the click then directs them to a generic landing page (like the homepage), which means that a ton of good leads are lost.

    • For any ad you run, ask yourself: Could we tell a more specific and compelling story than the generic one we tell when we aren’t entirely sure who is landing on the page?

    • If the answer is yes, and your ad spend/LTV justifies it, build out a targeted landing page for each specific ad target.

Design and usability

  1. Is the page visually appealing and professional?

    • Does it create trust and credibility with high-quality visuals and branding?

    • Is the layout clean, uncluttered, and easy to skim and navigate?

  2. Is the page optimized for mobile devices?

    • Does it load quickly and display properly on smaller screens?

    • Is the mobile version as user-friendly as the desktop version?

  3. Are key elements placed above the fold?

    • Can users see the headline, offer, and call-to-action without scrolling?

    • Is the most critical information immediately visible?

  4. Is the navigation simple and distraction-free?

    • Are there minimal links or buttons that might divert attention?

    • Is the focus entirely on driving qualified leads to take one single action (eg. book a demo, take a free trial, or sign up?)

Call-to-action (CTA)

  1. Is your CTA prominent and clear?

    • Does the button stand out visually with a contrasting color and appropriate size?

    • Is the button text action-oriented and specific (e.g. "Get your free quote" or “Book a 15-minute consult”) or value-oriented and specific (e.g. “Become a member and start learning today” or “Start saving today”)

  2. Is the CTA easy to complete?

    • Are too many form fields creating confusion or friction?

    • Is the form or next step simple enough for users to take action quickly?

  3. Does the CTA offer a clear benefit?

    • Do visitors know exactly what they will get after clicking?

    • Is the perceived value of clicking higher than the effort required?

Credibility and trust

  1. Are you showcasing enough social proof?

    • Do you include testimonials, case studies, or reviews that highlight success stories which are relevant to your ideal customer?

    • Are recognizable client logos or industry awards displayed prominently?

  2. Are trust signals present on the page?

    • Have you added security badges, certifications, or privacy reassurances?

    • Do visitors feel their information is safe with you?

  3. Are you addressing common objections?

    • Do you preemptively answer doubts about pricing, security, ease of use, or performance?

    • Are there FAQs or content to mitigate hesitations when a qualified lead lands on the page?

Analytics and testing

  1. Have you analyzed heatmaps and session recordings?

    • Where are users clicking or dropping off?

    • Are there areas of confusion or unexpected behavior?

  2. Are you using tracking tools to monitor conversions?

    • Do you have clear metrics set up for your conversion goals?

    • Are you using tools like Google Analytics or CRO platforms to gather actionable data for testing and iteration?

  3. Have you A/B tested key elements of the page?

    • Have you experimented with different headlines, messaging, CTAs, designs, or offers?

    • Are you iteratively improving your landing page every month based on data-driven decisions?

By using these questions as a starting point, you can systematically identify bottlenecks in your landing pages, and work on optimizing your pages month on month to increase conversions and revenue.
